Leasing FAQs

WHEN CAN I MOVE IN?
You may move in the date that your lease starts or anytime thereafter.  Call the rental office (717-530-1311) to schedule a time to pick up your key.

WHAT'S THE MOVING OUT PROCEDURE

1. Security Deposits – In order to receive your security deposit back you must give us a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  If we do not already have this please make sure to drop off your envelope as soon as possible at the office at 109 Stone Ridge Commons or place in the drop box located between the glass double doors at Stone Ridge Commons.  We need these addressed to a home address not an address of College Park Commons.  If you are renewing your lease or if you are moving to a different apartment in College Park, you will still need to give us an envelope in order that we can send you a notice stating the amount being rolled over to next year’s security deposit and the amount still due on August 1, if any.

2. Key Return – You must fill out a key return envelope and return it to the office in order to receive credit for returning your keys.  Please bring the envelope to the office or place in the drop box.  We must receive all apartment and mailbox keys by the last day of your lease.  Also keep in mind that there is a $10.00 charge for each unreturned key.

3. Cleaning – All furniture and possessions must be removed from the unit or a charge to remove them will be assessed against your security deposit.  Any items that you wish to dispose of must be placed in the dumpsters.  If your apartment is not thoroughly cleaned, our maintenance staff will clean it and you will be charged accordingly.  Please note:  A large dumpster will be on the premises several weeks before move out.  Please wait and use this dumpster for any large items such as furniture.

4. Damages – The condition of your apartment will be compared to the report that you signed upon move-in.  If there are any damages, the cost will be taken out of your security deposit.  If the amount is greater than the amount of your security deposit, you will be billed for the charge.

5. Bills – Make sure all bills are paid before May 1.  If we have already calculated your security deposit amount, checks received after May 11 for outstanding expenses will be returned with your security deposit check or notice.  All unpaid bills will be prorated to each tenant of the apartment, therefore, you may not receive all of you security deposit back if there are unpaid bills for the apartment. Tenants of College Park Commons are responsible for calling Penelec Energy to have your electric service disconnected.  The phone number is 800-545-7738 or 800-545-7741.

IS MY LEASE AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED?
No.  You need to contact the rental office by November 1st if you want to renew your lease for the following academic year.

WILL MY RENT INCREASE?
Your rent will not increase while you have a signed lease.  Sometimes there are opportunities for you to lock in an existing rate for an extended time.  Contact the rental office for more information.

WILL I GET MY SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK?
Yes, except if there are any charges you owe when you move out or if there is any damage to the property that needs to be repaired. The rental office will deduct that amount from your deposit.  Any unpaid rent will also be deducted.

Do I pay for cable/high speed internet connection?
Internet connection and cable is included in your rent.

Where do I get my mail?
There are mailboxes located in the common area between building A, B and C.

Do I have to pay for a parking permit?
All cars must be registered with the housing office.  You must pay a $5.00 registration fee for a permit that should be displayed on the car’s rear bumper.  Your car will be towed if there is no permit.

What happens when I have visitors?
You must get a visitor parking pass from the office for each vehicle used by any guest.  This should be displayed in the front window.  No visitor permits are available over Homecoming Weekend.

Is there always space to park close to the units?
There is sufficient parking at College Park Commons

When and where should I put out garbage to be removed?
There are trash dumpsters on the property for tenants use.  They are emptied on a regular basis.

What happens if I lose my keys or get locked out?
Contact the student housing office to get a replacement key.

Can I have pets?  No pets are allowed except for fish.
